A Quick Guide to Understanding Google’s New Mobile Search Changes.

Google’s announcement of changes to their algorithm has taken many people by surprise. Here is a quick guide to checking your site and understanding the output.

Google has stated that April 21st’s mobile-friendly update boosts mobile search rankings for pages that are legible and usable on mobile devices. This new algorithm:

  •  Affects only search rankings on mobile devices
  • Affects search results in all languages globally
  • Applies to individual pages, not entire websites

What you need to do.

You must check to see if your site is mobile friendly. There are two tools that are available through google webmaster site that will check for you.

To check each individual page of your site use the Mobile-Friendly Test tool. The new mobile friendly algorithm is on a page by page basis so it is important to check each page of your site.

Enter each page link individually and check the report. Your report should look like this:

If you are connected to Google’s webmaster tools you can check your entire site through this link Mobile Usability report in Webmaster Tools. Google will give a detailed report. If you have not connected your site to the Google webmaster tools you can follow Google’s instructions here Webmaster Tools Help
